Abu Dhabi and Dubai set to welcome Puccini’s sumptuous opera Madama ButterflyMadama Butterfly @ DUCTAT on November 12th 2015

A stunning new production of Madama Butterfly visits Abu Dhabi and Dubai in November, promising to transport audience members back to the early 1900’s with exquisite set design and world-class direction.

One of Puccini’s most popular works, this Italian opera will be made accessible to both spectators new to watching opera and those who already love it; an English speaking actress will narrate her interpretation of the action on stage throughout.

Referred to as ‘the Japanese tragedy’, Madama Butterfly’s rich poetic words and melodies tell the story of a young geisha transformed through a journey of love and heartbreak. Monica De Rosa McKay, the only Italian Soprano resident in the UAE takes this title role of Cio-Cio San.

Monica says of the event: “I am honoured and grateful to perform Madama Butterfly in the UAE, the most heartfelt and evocative of Puccini’s operas. This production promises to be extraordinary thanks to the visionary direction of Alex Broun from Constellation Dubai, the internationally acclaimed cast of singers and beautifully hand painted set by the Italian set decorator Massima Barone”.

Monica is joined by other Italian singers flying in for the performance, Tenor Gian Luca Pasolini playing B.F.
