The Memorandum of Understanding signed between Italian Commissioner Paolo Glisenti and the President of the Association, Enrico Letta, aims to facilitate the participation of Italy’s entrepreneurial system and scientific and cultural institutions with a strategic interest in the Region in strengthening economic, financial and cultural cooperation between Italy and the ASEAN Member States, with a special focus on the issues of connectivity, climate change and sustainable development, capacity building, maritime cooperation and natural disaster management, in addition to the sustainability of the agri-food sector and health.
The Italy-ASEAN Association also commits to organize one or more initiatives and events for the Global Business Forum on ASEAN at Expo 2020 Dubai, scheduled for 8-9 December 2021, with the aim of boosting economic and financial cooperation, business matching and growth opportunities in exports and investments, as well as scientific and cultural cooperation between the Italian economic system and the ASEAN Countries.
“EXPO 2020 Dubai is a big opportunity for the Italy-ASEAN Association to continue its efforts to strengthen relations between Italy, Europe and Southeast Asia,” stated Enrico Letta. “We will have the chance to organize events and promote initiatives together with the Italian Commissioner’s Office for Expo 2020 Dubai focused on the principles of international dialogue, free trade and multilateralism. In the past few years, we have witnessed growing interest for the ASEAN region but it will be essential for the Italian economic system to act jointly in order to grasp the opportunities that are emerging in this extremely dynamic area of the Planet.”
“Our cooperation with ASEAN in view of Expo 2020 Dubai – stated Paolo Glisenti – opens interesting prospects for Italy’s participation in the upcoming Universal Expo in which the configuration of a new free trade zone between Asian Countries enables our companies to look with greater confidence at the post-pandemic recovery period. The role that Italy will play together with ASEAN in Dubai will consolidate our diplomatic, cultural and scientific relations with that area of the world.”
