Interview with Joshua Fenu, an International Fashion Designer
I’m glad to know that you are Italian like me: I saw your Fashion Show during the Fashion Victims Season2 in Dubai. First of all, congratulations for your beautiful collections of shoes and bags.
It was your first time here in Dubai? Do you like it?
No, It was my second time, cause I came also for Fashion Victims Season 1. I like Dubai, I have lots of friend here and I enjoy the city every time.
From Italy you moved to Los Angels and New York, where you finished your studies at Parson School of Design. Could you tell us how your brand was born?
Joshua Fenu Brand was born with my name and surname and because I started to work for different brands as consultant, the last was linked to Adidas in Paris, but I wanted to create my own brand. Now I live in London.
You were also a Fashion stylist of many international stars like Scarlett Johansson, Johnny Deep, Kelis, Macy Gray, Rihanna, Coolio, Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliot, Timbaland, Flo Rida, Pitbull. You have worked as a designer and consultant for Luxury Big Fashion Houses. Thanks to your Experience you have the position of Creative Director of Accessories at the A-list celebrity, red carpet favorite fashion house, Zuhair Murad. You did also TV Show in Italy.
Yes, I did also famous television shows on Italian channel: one in Canale 5, it was called “Chiambretti Night” and one in Italia Uno, “Chiambretti Sunday Show”, and last summer one it was called “Chiambretti Supermarket”.
Your products are “Made in Italy” high-quality: is there some particular that everybody can recognize?
Yes, I make embroderies on my shoes: instantly identifiable thanks to the original patent Heeltaps logo and blue china (the colour of my soul), a common feature in every accessory. Every season I also have different stories like “Tropical Exotic Jungle”, next winter will be “China Rock”(I did nice presentation during the Fashion Week in Milan).
Some adjectivies to describe which is the best way to create a collection: do you mix any elements or materials?
First I don’t copy, second I don’t listen to anyone, third I do what I want and what I feel: to be famous and successful needs to be original! Then I get the ispiration from travels, books (I read a lot), make lots of research, then try to make some designs and decide which one I like the most and mix materials and colours like creating a painting.
Could you give some tips to the modern women about their look?Any adjectivies to be Fashionista?
The accessories like bags and shoes are the most important details: for me, the woman needs to focus on them and not too much on the clothes. Unique, original, luxury, a piece of art are the words for a sophisticated woman Fashionista.
